Evidence based treatment
Acupuncture is one of the oldest forms of medicine and is widely used by physiotherapists in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions.
WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?
Acupuncture involves the insertion of pre-sterilised disposable needles into the skin to specific point’s located along the meridians in the body.
IS ACUPUNCTURE SAFE?
Patients can be assured that when acupuncture is given by a physiotherapist at our clinic that the treatment is based on evidence and uses extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
WHEN CAN ACUPUNCTURE HELP?
The pain relieving effects of acupuncture are increasingly supported by research, in particular in the treatment of osteoarthritic pain, headaches and low back pain.
Indeed acupuncture is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Evidence (NICE) for the treatment of non-specific low back pain alongside physiotherapy and exercises.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED?
This depends on the nature of the condition being treated and how individual patients respond to acupuncture.
Research has identified that 6 – 10 acupuncture treatments may be necessary in the treatment of long-standing painful conditions.
Fiona and Gurdeep are both qualified in acupuncture.

“I have attended New Forest Physio for some years now, and I know that if I am in trouble with my neck or my knees Fiona is there to help me. I suffer from arthritis and am unable to take anti-inflammatory medication, so for me acupuncture is a natural way to get relief from pain.”
